Thread: Black or brown

Hook: no. 2/0 - 1 for largemouth bass, 1-6 for smallmouth bass and panfish

Body: tightly packed spun deer hairDeer hair (color of choice)

Head Stripe: (color of choice)

Tail: Bucktail (twice as long as the hook shank) color of choice

Thread: black, brown, or red 140 denier
Hook: 14-18 dry
Body: red floss with a deer hair hump
Hackle: brown
Wing: white calf tail-hair
Tail: black bucktail (half as long as the hook shank)

Classic Leadwing Coachman »

Thread: black 6/0
Hook: no. 12 wet/nymph
Body: five or six lengths of peacock hurl
Tag: gold tinsel
Rib: fine gold wire
Wing: mallard quill
Collar: dark brown hen hackle

First tag, then body, then ribbing.
Tie in two matching peices of mallard quill.
Then tie in the hackle, and wrap it 2-3 times around the hook before securing.
Trim off excess.
Whip finish and apply laquer.

Henrickson’s Hellgrammite »

Hook: no. 10, 12 wet
Thread: black 140 denier
Body: Black wool or dubbing (fuzz it up with velcro or a dubbing needle to resemble legs)
Thorax: Black wool or dubbing
Tail: two black goose biots
Shellback: black goose quill
Beard: Black hen fibers (tied in thickly)

First tail, then body and thorax, then shellback, then beard.
Whip finish and laquer.

Meat’s Mudbuddy »

Thread: brown 140 denier
Hook: no. 4, 6, or 8 streamer
Body: Brown, Olive, or a subtle red
Claws: Almond pheasant
Antennea: moose fibers (I like to use just two)
Shellback: Dark, mottled pheasant
Tail: Dark, mottled pheasant
Legs: Chocolate hackle
Eyes: burnt monofiliment
Weight: heavy lead wire administered in tight wraps near the end of the hook

First weight, then claws, then antennea, then body, then hackle, then eyes, then then shellback (which it also the tail).
Whip finish and laquer.
