Hook: Mustad 34007 size 1 or 2 or 4 .
Thread: Flat waxed nylon - color depends on craft fur
Tail: Craft fur stripped with a marker
Body: Medium Chenille (using larger chenille will not work well, the dubbing loop hides the larger chenille by wrapping it down with the dubbing loop)
Wing: Palmered Craft fur in a dubbing loop
Head: X small to small eyes
Weed Guard: 30-pound mono

Color choices are up to you..I started tying this fly in tan and orange...I have also tied it with EP fibers, tends to look more like a pinfish or fish pattern than a skrimp with the EP

Tie in craft fur tail somewhere between the hook barb and point
Take a marker and bar the tail
Tie in dubbing loop on top of tail and hook shank
Pull dubbing loop away from the hook and secure it on the vise (I usually hang it on the vise)
Tie in medium chenille in front of the dubbing loop
Wrap thread forward and tie in dumbbell eyes
Wrap thread back behind the eye
Palmer chenille forward and tie off behind the eyes
Cut some craft fur and insert it into the dubbing loop and spread it out and twist
Palmer the dubbing loop through the chenille to the back of the eyes and tie off
Take a small comb and comb the hair back
Tie in the weed guard if you want one
Whip finish and apply head cement.

Thread: Olive Ultra Thread 140
Tail: Crystal Flash (Copper Root Beer), Enrico's EP Fibers (Olive Tan)
Body: Aunt Lydia's (Rug Yarn) (Tan Cream) or Enrico's EP Fibers (Olive Back Country)
Head: Medium Bead Chain (use heavier to cover the water column)
Weed Guard: 25 pound hard mason mono

This fly was created by Capt. Paul Fisicaro - this is my interpretation of his creation. The fly is something in the middle of the road between a kwan and toad.

Wrap hook shank with thread to just past the barb
Now tie in the Enrico's EP Fiber tail, length is twice the hook
Now bar the tail with a brown or green magic marker
Tie in flash twice the length of the hook
Take some Sally Hansen Hard as Nails and coat.
Now figure eight five pieces of yarn or Enrico's EP Fiber alternating colors
Tie in the dumb bell eye and super glue
Cut the yarn or Enrico's EP Fiber diagonally from the hook shank
Add a little Sally Hansen Hard as Nails to the top and bottom of fly to lock in the wraps
Tie in the weed guard
Whip finish and head cement.

Eyes - any large Hard type Eye - the ones pictures are about the size of a nickle epoxied to two strands of 50# mono

Tentacles - Super Hair Base, Long Krystal Flash for the feeding tentacles, Syn-yak

Mantle - Layers of Super Hair

Fins - Hula Wrap

Flash - Amount Optional - Angel Hair

There are Two tricks to this tie.

First mounting the eyes. I epoxy the eye to two strands of 50# mono so that they can work with and against each other to support to eye and cause vibrations in the water. I loosely wrap the mono to the side of the hook shank then carefully pull on the top strand to work the eye into position.

The Super Hair in the Tentacles is tied in first, and then stiffened with Softex.

The Super Hair mantel is tied in like the Classic Maine fly the Groceries. The Super hair is first tied down at its mid point, then thread is wrapped BEHIND the super hair to stand it up. Then the other half of the hair is folded back, and flaired around the thread wraps to create a viel. This is done to build volume without bulk and to cause the materials to quiver in the water.

Colors probably don't matter, but I like my squid to have touches of pink yellow and orange. White and Chartreuse also work well, as does purple.
