LTD (Long Transitional Dun) »

Hook: #16 Mustad 94840 (or similar)
Thread: 8/0 Uni-thread (Olive Dun)
Tail: 4 Dark Pheasant Tail Fibers (shank Length)
Body: Pheasant Tail fibers (twisted in tying thread dubbing loop)
Thorax: PMD Beaver dubbing (vary to match particular hatch)
Hackle: Medium Dun #16
Wing: Medium Dun CDC (Loop Wing)

Tie in the tail. Create dubbing Loop at the tie in point and twist in the remaining tail fibers. Wind to thorax and tie off. Tie in one CDC feather by the tips at the end of the body sweeping all fibers toward the tip prior. Tie in your hackle at same location. Dub thorax. Wind hackle (palmered sparse no more than 2 turns). Tie off at the head. Form loose loop with CDC and tie down lightly. Pull CDC stem until the loop is 1/2 the shank length high (it will leave fibers standing taller…that’s OK). Secure, tie off and trim. Form head. Clip hackle in a “V” at bottom. I use a thread dubbing loop instead of wrapping with tinsel or wire adding durability without weight.
